Rat 12.12.2024 Entscheidung
Beschlussdarstellung:
Der Rat der Landeshauptstadt Düsseldorf stimmt der überplanmäßigen Bereitstellung
von Haushaltsmitteln durch Frau Städtkämmerin Schneider in Höhe von €500.000, -
zur Unterstützung der Partnerstadt Haifa zu.
Sachdarstellung:
in ihrem Alltag erheblich belastet.
in Israel.
Gerade in

Arabic and Hebrew Language Studies in Haifa's Jewish and Arab Elementary Schools
Request for Support
We kindly request your support for the implementation of the program for Arabic language and culture
studies in Jewish elementary schools and Hebrew language and culture studies in Arab elementary
schools. The program is designed to be experiential, focusing on spoken language as a gateway to
fostering connections.
Background
Shared Life in Haifa
Promoting coexistence among the various groups comprising Israeli society has become one of the
most urgent and critical challenges for the country. The numerous societal divides-national,
ideological, religious, and ethnic-alongside growing polarization and the lack of a culture of dialogue,
pose a real threat to the future fabric of society in Israel.
Haifa serves as a symbol of shared life in the country, a reality achieved through significant investment
and attention to details that are far from self-evident. These efforts require ongoing maintenance and a
commitment to advancing social cohesion.
Education, culture, and community systems play a crucial role in fostering social cohesion by creating a
respectful space for all identities and population groups. Cohesion does not mean erasing or blurring
identities but rather recognizing diversity as an enriching force for society. Haifa's efforts in promoting
coexistence are aligned with the vision of the city's leadership.
The goal of the Shared Life program is to develop graduates who have a strong sense of self-identity,
show respect toward those who differ from them, and are able to see commonalities rather than just
divisions. These graduates will feel a sense of belonging, engagement, and responsibility toward
society, while upholding values of justice, equality, and preserving heritage.
The Arabic language and culture studies program in Jewish elementary schools, and Hebrew language
and culture studies in Arab elementary schools, embody this spirit through an experiential approach
focused on spoken, rather than literary, language-unlocking a world of connections.
